International Clients

If you are from overseas and you wish to get married in Melbourne, Australia, the Wedding Bureau – Victoria can provide the perfect service for you.  Your wedding and all the legals included, right here in our lovely private setting.

Here’s what you should bring with you.  Firstly bring your original Birth Certificate or your passport, and if either of you have been married before you will need to produce original proof of how the last marriage ended. This mean you would need to bring original Divorce papers or a Death certificate – which may need to be translated by an official translator if these are written in another language. These have to be originals certificates that are shown and not copies or certified copies. It is important that you bring all of these papers with you to Australia so that your Celebrant can sight them. Without these original papers you won’t legally be able to go ahead with the marriage ceremony in Australia.

The Notice of Intention to Marry can be obtained from the Australian High Commission, Embassy or the Australian Foreign Affairs Department in your Country. Or you can download it at this link.

Read the form carefully. The details on the Form indicate who can witness the form for you. This Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) form can be lodged with us all the way from your own country. You can send it to us by mail or email a scanned copy prior to the wedding – however you MUST bring the original with you when you come to Australia. The NOIM must be lodged no less than one month before the wedding date.  When you arrive in Australia we will arrange all the other legal paperwork for the marriage ceremony.

The Notice of Intended Marriage form can be downloaded here: NOIM form.

On the day of your wedding you will be given a presentation Marriage Certificate, however if you wish to obtain the processed and official final copy of the Certificate of Marriage to take home with you before you leave Australia, you will need to apply to the Births Deaths & Marriages in Melbourne to get this. This is fastest when it is done in person at their offices in Melbourne. Or it can be applied for by mail at a later time when you return to your home country.

Please feel free to either email or call us here at the Wedding Bureau – Victoria if you plan to get married here in Melbourne. Telephone on +613 9820 1119, or if the administration offices are unattended – please call +61 424 77 88 00
